Fiction 101

  • 100 words in 100 days 9/100

I've been working through Randy Ingermanson's Fiction 101 course. All I can say is WOW. I am learning a ton. Due to my difficult pregnancy and slow recovery and of course the insanity of balancing a toddler and a baby plus my other four children, various pets, etc., I haven't worked on my novel in quite a while.

Recently, I dusted off this WIP of mine and thought - YUCK. Too much telling and not enough showing for starters. So when I won Randy's Fiction 101 course, I was super excited. Randy is an excellent teacher (as in interesting and funny) and his course has not only taught me an incredible amount already, but it's jumpstarted my motivation to dive back into my WIP.

Right now I'm working on filling out character sheets (which I never thought I'd enjoy, but I've done one so far and boy was it fun lol) and I'm working through his Snowflake Method to set a good foundation for my novel to rest on.

As a SOTPster, I haven't found his method too structured yet. I think it's going to go a long way in strengthening some weak issues. By the way, (I know I sound like an advertisement) he also has a great newsletter which you can sign up for on his website, too.

It's so wonderful to feel inspired again.

By the way, this is my third start on the 100 words in 100 days and I'm on day 9/100 so far. Go me lol.

0 Prose by others.
