My husband thinks I'm certifiable

  • 100 words in 100 days Day 4/100

My husband and I had an interesting conversation the other morning. He knows I'm a bit crazy, but then came my confession about the voices in my head. Let me back up a moment.

A few nights ago, I was drifting off to sleep when the beginning of what I thought was my chick lit, Sassy Style, started running through my head. I grabbed the mini recorder and recorded the words and then drifted off to sleep, happy to have a new and better beginning to Sassy Style.

The next morning, as I typed the words into the computer, I began to realize it wasn't Sassy talking to me. Nope, this was a new character and I don't even know her name. I love her voice though! It has kind of a southern, small town flavor. I can't wait until she tells me who she is and what her story is. I do know the theme and it's a good one. It's about being free to be who God's created you to be without fearing what people will think about you.

This leads me back to my husband. I'm snuggling in bed while he gets up and I told him my exciting news about a new character. Then he tells me it's kind of weird when your wife tells you she hears voices. I said I'm not the only one and that lots of authors have characters talk to them. He contends that they don't actually talk to you and I assured him that they do. In fact, I didn't know Jake (from my WIP Midnight Ride) had a sister until he told Nicole (the heroine) when he was showing her around the ranch house. I was stunned for all of two seconds and then I shrugged and went on writing.

My husband thinks I'm nuts. I told him I'd prove to him that authors hear their characters talk to them all the time. That's where you come in. If you are a writer, please leave a comment about the voices in your head. (If you are not a writer, ummm...don't tell me about the voices.)

10 Prose by others.
